enter a deep state of relaxation with iRest® Yoga Nidra

iRest® Yoga Nidra

It is said that a 30 minute Yoga Nidra practice  provides the body and mind with the experience of having 4 hours of deep, restful sleep.

During a Yoga Nidra practice, you are guided into a deep state of relaxation while remaining alert and attentive.  Yoga Nidra helps create a balance between the mind and body.   Some of the many other benefits include:

  • Stress and anxiety: Yoga Nidra can help reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Insomnia: Yoga Nidra can help with insomnia and improve quality of sleep.
  • Mental health: Yoga Nidra can help improve concentration, mental health and well-being.
  • Physical health: Yoga Nidra can help with pain and inflammation, blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar levels.

Yoga nidra to be one of the best ways to relax, calm the mind, and de-stress.  Yoga nidra requires no movement...you can enjoy a yoga nidra practice while comfortably seated in a chair or by lying down.

The term, Yoga Nidra, is a play on words.  The word Yoga means both "union with Self" and  "awakening to your innate Self".  It implies that you're spiritually awake.  The word Nidra means "sleep".  So, yoga nidra means that you are spiritually awake while you sleep.  In this relaxed state, the thinking minds falls into the theda brainwave state.  The physical body is deeply relaxed and you are guided into a restful meditation.  This is where you experience the connection with your inner Self.  This is the place where you can make significant and lasting changes in your life.

In a deep meditation, we have a conscious awareness of what is around us and experience the feelings of pure joy and compassion.  This is the Gamma stage.

One of the yoga nidra techniques I use is iRest® Yoga Nidra.

iRest® Yoga Nidra Meditation, or Integrative Restoration Therapy is a relaxing therapeutic yoga nidra developed by Dr. Richard Miller and studied by the U.S. Department of Defense.  It is currently one of the DOD's holistic protocols for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  Research has shown iRest®  to effectively reduce PTSD, insomnia, chronic pain, and chemical dependency, as well as provide anxiety & depression relief; while increasing health, resiliency, and well-being.

iRest® Yoga Nidra Meditation assists in going beyond self-limiting beliefs and conditions.  Its practice allows you to break free of restrictive patterns, free of conflict, anxiety, fear, dissatisfaction, and suffering, and live in a state of contentment and calm.

iRest® nourishes the higher energetic qualities of joy, peacefulness, empathy, forgiveness, patience, and lovingkindness towards yourself and others.
