I rely on Ayurvedic knowledge when designing a personal yoga practice for you. Knowing your dosha is important, as this helps you better understand what you can do to bring you back and keep you in balance.
Ayurveda is the sister science to Yoga. Whereas Yoga is the science of union with the divine self/truth, Ayurveda is the science of life/longevity. “Ayu” means life or daily living. “Veda” means knowledge.
Quantum Science and Ancient Yogic Science agree, all matter is, at its core, simply energy vibrating. The various frequency of the vibration is what creates the unique form of all matter. As humans, we have the same basic frequency, BUT we each have a unique energetic signature due to subtle changes to the vibration which results in how we differ in looks, gender, emotions, thoughts, etc.
Ayurvedic science explains that everything composed of the vibrational energies forming space (ether), air, fire, water, and earth.
Ether is space and carries all possibilities; Air, is not the air we breath, but is defined as that in which carries the qualities of movement and change; Fire is the quality of hot, direct, and transformational; Water is cohesive and protective; Earth is solid, grounded and stable.
These five elements form the human body. Ether is all the spaces within the body, Air is the movement (ie: pulse, heart beat), Fire is digestion and metabolism, Water is all the bodily fluids, and Earth is all of the solid components (bones, organs).
These five elements combine to form the three mind-body systems, called doshas. There are three doshas: Vata – elements of ether and air, regulates movement and change; Pitta – elements of fire and water, regulates digestion and metabolism; Kapha – elements of earth and water, maintains and protects the integrity and structure of our mind and body.
Our bodies are made up of all three doshas. Doshas are present in every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies. All three doshas are essential components of life. Because we are all unique individuals, we organize our doshas in unique and different ways. This determines the distinctive qualities of our mind and body. Typically, we each have one or two primary dosha, sometimes three.
Knowing your primary dosha helps you manage stress, anxiety, depression, anger, fear and other emotions. It is when we are not in balance, our primary dosha’s “bad side” becomes most present. By understanding this we can bring ourselves back into balance.
In Yoga we learn to calm the mind and tune in to the body. As we calm the mind and tune in, we are able to become aware of subtle changes that may affect our balance.
Ayurveda helps with answers on how to bring us back into and maintain our health and well-being.
